The Dalai Lama has 18 rules of Living, one of which really rings true here and I think is a good ‘rule’ to live by:
Once a year, go someplace you have never been before – Dalai Lama
What I have only recently appreciated is how close we are in the UK to a whole multitude of different cultures, beliefs, and lifestyles and have made it a focus of mine to visit as many places that interest me as I can.
You may see reference to the Travel ‘Hit list’ here – I tend to write stuff down of things I want to achieve or work towards and have one designated to travel.
I’m always keen to hear recommendations / stories from others when they visit places that I haven’t been to, and find that the Travel Hit List only grows.
I have also found that what I enjoy about places has evolved as I have got older and travelled more. I tend not to enjoy the big ‘touristy’ things to do (large crowds are my enemy) so try and ‘take-in’ places as opposed to rushing around feeling like I have to see everything that TripAdvisor tells me to.
